STEAM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics; it is used to describe and promote collaborations within the humanities and sciences and interdisciplinary work. STEAM 2023 is the fourth iteration of the Pensacola Museum of Art's STEAM exhibition. The exhibition was focused on the ideas of ecologies, permeability, bubbles/spheres, and ecotones.
The goal for this identity was to represent the artists and researchers part of the exhibition, but also to represent all aspects of STEAM in some way. The concept of permeability and spheres is represented in the overlapping circles; the artistic and organic side of STEAM is represented in the organically shaped A; math and engineering are represented in the geometric letters; and technology is represented in the way the deliverables were produced.
The colors were a result of the technological process of playing with color modes, types of transparencies, and blend modes. The highlighting of the A in the title emphasizes the context of the exhibition, as although STEAM represents the intersection of art and science, this exhibition was an art show located in an art museum.
