The University of West Florida's Student Goverment Association (SGA) held an eventful week with the theme of "All Argos, All Different," giving out multiple goodies during the event as well. A contest was held for the t-shirt design, as they wanted to feature student artwork.
My entry was mainly inspired by the work of Kieth Harrington, and how his simple shapes and figures could convey such strong messages. After sketching out a design of the earth, I filled the shapes by drawing Harrington-inspired figures. Since the design was drawn by hand, each figure is genuinely unique. I wanted to deviate from the typical "holding hands around the globe" illustration, but with the theme in mind I wanted to emphasize the word all.
The typical hands around the earth illustration never really struck a chord with me, and I wanted the shirt to be more impactful. Rather than simply existing together and surrounding the earth, I chose to illustrate them making up the earth; if a figure is removed, it's incomplete and no longer an accurate depiction of the world.
The illustration was paired with hand lettered type to emphasize loose, organic feel.
People enjoyed wearing the shirts throughout diversity week, and SGA ran out of shirts halfway through the week.
